University of East London is a public university in the United Kingdom that was established in 1898 and is located in the London Borough of Newnham, London, England. Following the passage of the Technical Instruction Act of 1889, the West Ham Technical Instruction Act Committee approved the construction of the site in 1892, giving rise to the University of East London, which was first known as the West Ham Technical Institute and was formally inaugurated in October 1898. In 1992, it was designated as a university. UEL occupies 97 acres of land, built for both academic and non-academic purposes.
